Quarter Life Crisis

Whether you call it a Quarter-Life Crisis, a phase, a funk, or “just how life is” – for many women, the 20s and even 30s is a challenging time. For many women this phase of life is marked by questioning all facets of their lives, doubt, anxiety and confusion about who they are, who they should be, and what they really want in life.

Here are some characteristics of the quarter-life crisis:

  • lack of satisfaction in social interactions and activities
  • frustration with relationships, the working world, and finding a suitable career
  • feeling "not good enough" because your job isn’t at your academic/intellectual level
  • difficulty making major decisions – and when you do, questioning them
  • disappointment with one's job and life accomplishments
  • confusion of identity/where you fit in the world
  • insecurity about the near future as well as long-term plans and life goals
  • financially-rooted stress (overwhelming college loans, high cost of living, etc.)
  • loss of closeness to high school and college friends; difficulty finding a community of friends
  • feeling like your “clock is ticking” for career, marriage, children
  • loneliness; desire to be in a romantic relationship or feeling like everyone else is getting married
  • feeling pressure and expectations to do, have or be something more
  • a sense that everyone is, somehow, doing better than you
  • life just not turning out how you had planned
