Free Consultation
I offer a free in-person consultation for new clients. This lasts 20-30 minutes and gives us time to talk about your situation and see if we're a good fit to work together. If I'm not a good fit, I will do my best to direct you to other resources.
Sliding Fee/Reduced Fee Services
As of
I have 2 reduced-fee openings. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis for people who are unable to afford the full hourly rate. No documentation of income is required. We will discuss fees in our consultation meeting.
Forms of Payment
Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. Payment is due at the time of service.
Cancellation Policy
If needing to postpone or cancel an appointment, please do so more than 24 hours in advance. I reserve the right to charge for no-shows or cancellations with less than 24 hours notice.
Insurance
As a fee-for-service provider, I do not accept insurance. Services may be eligible for reimbursement through medical flex spending or health savings accounts. Please ask your provider about reimbursement options.
Paying Privately
There are several reasons to consider paying for services on an out-of-pocket basis.
Many plans place restrictions on the providers you can see, the number of sessions covered, as well as the focus of services and how they're delivered. For example, the following are often not covered by insurance:
- Relationship therapy, such as couples or families
- Coaching or wellness-oriented services
- Services delivered online, via email, or by phone
- Services for someone who does not meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis
When insurance covers therapy, carriers require a mental health diagnosis to verify the "medical necessity" of services. They also have the right to request assessment, diagnosis, and treatment information. Certain diagnoses may raise concerns when trying to obtain life or health insurance with other carriers in the future.
Given these challenges, some clients choose to pay for services privately. This allows you to maintain your privacy and lets you and your therapist - not the insurance company - decide how to work together. A mental health diagnosis is not necessary to receive services.
As a best practice I do assess for mental health conditions, document goals and objectives, and keep session notes to serve my clients well. However, in most cases, I am not required to share this information with your insurance company (or anyone else) if they are not paying for services. We'll discuss possible exceptions when we meet.
